If you are tired of having to be locked into a particular mobile phone carrier, then you may want to purchase one of the cheap unlocked mobile phones. This is the big secret your carriers do not want you to know. They keep you in contracts with high termination fees. By purchasing an unlocked cell phone, you can make all of the decisions in regard to whom you want as your provider.

An unlocked cell phone is a phone that can be used with any carrier, as long as the carrier supports the correct band rates, GSM and utilizes sim cards. Before purchasing an unlocked cellular phone, it is important to make sure the carrier you want to use will support the phone. You can find many of the latest phones with 3G services. All of your favorite brands such as Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, and Blackberry are available. The other interesting thing is that you can also purchase phones that may not even be available in your country of origin yet.

The cost of an unlocked cell phone will depend on a few things. First, the type of phone will influence the price. A new touchscreen smart phone may cost several hundred dollars, while a more standard smartphone may cost less than one hundred dollars. Some cheap unlocked mobile phones can be purchased for a nominal amount. You can purchase standard phones that are great for texting and phone calls for much less.

Once you get your unlocked phone, you will not be paying as much for your service. When you see carriers advertise the newest phones for such cheap prices, it is because they will lock you into a three-year contract. When you have your own phone, you will experience better pricing and not be under a contract, unless you want to. An unlocked phone is also great if you are a traveler. You can take your phone anywhere and purchase a local sim card so you will not have to pay expensive roaming charges or even those high international rates.

Many websites sell unlocked cell phones. You can visit each and see what is available. You also have the option of purchasing a refurbished model, which will also save you money as well as give you a great phone. Like many, you may be tired of your carrier and their lack of choices, so check into purchasing a cheap unlocked mobile phone.

Many mobile phones manufactured today come with a SIM card. The SIM card is a card distributed by the carrier such as AT&T or Verizon. Most of these mobile phones are tethered to monthly plans and a minimum amount of time you are to stay with a certain carrier, a signed contract. These phones are considered locked as they cannot and will not recognize another SIM card besides the one that was issued with the phone or from that same carrier. Many people find that having to stay ‘faithful’ to one particular phone plan or carrier to be quite a hassle and a source of great frustration. However, an unlocked phone provides greater freedom of both choice of the carrier and choice of the style of mobile phone.

Unlocked mobile phones are not bound to one particular set of rules and restrictions. They do not necessarily belong to one carrier or to one contract. These phones will readily accept any SIM card and become ‘loyal’ to that new carrier with the ability to easily become ‘unfaithful’ at any given time. Carriers will sometimes offer this ability once the contract is fulfilled. AT&T offers the iPhone to be an unlocked phone once the two-year agreement if fulfilled. Often times though, unlocked phones will not function properly with other carriers besides the one carrier it was originally assigned to.

People often choose unlocked mobile phones because they want to have a certain phone on a certain plan. If one finds that they are highly attracted to a mobile phone from a carrier such as AT&T but they are not so pleased with the service the carrier offers, they can choose to buy an unlocked mobile phone from AT&T, but have the carrier to be any other carrier they choose.

If you are wondering how to get your hands on any unlocked mobile phones, there a few ways to get them, but these often come with a steep price. One option to choose from is to complete the contract agreed upon when first purchasing the mobile phone. Once the contract has been fulfilled, the mobile phone will become unlocked giving you the freedom of carrier choice. Another option is to buy an unlocked mobile phone from a third-party distributor. Unlocked mobile phones are sold at full price that is often quite expensive, especially when carriers offer deals when buying a mobile phone with a contract. Another option that can be pursued is paying a fee to have someone hack your phone and unlock it. These fees can also be very unkind to your wallet as there are no set regulations on how or low a fee for hacking a mobile phone is.

Unlocked mobile phones come with both pros and cons. If you want a specific phone with a carrier of your choice, an unlocked phone may be ideal. It is a preference of the user whether to purchase an unlocked mobile phone. Make sure that if you choose to unlock your phone or buy an unlocked mobile phone, be wary of the fees and other associated expenses. The choice is up to you whether you want to be ‘faithful’ or ‘unfaithful’ to your carrier.

Many people search for the best way to unlock their cell phones. While there are many different websites out there that claim that they can unlock your mobile phone, not all of them are created equal. Some websites claim to be able to unlock your cell phone only to scam you by providing shoddy freeware software. Other websites follow through with their ability to unlock your phone, but charge you a lot of money to do it. So what’s the best way to unlock your cell phone?

The honest answer is to go through your cell phone company. If you have a phone using a SIM card, you can contact your carrier for help. T-Mobile and AT&T both provide cell phone unlocking services for their customers after a few months into their contracts. The main reason you will want to go through your cell phone provider to get your mobile phone unlocked is to spare yourself from a breach-of-contract that other methods may cause. When you originally signed up with your cell phone carrier, you agreed to follow their rules. Sometimes their rules strictly prohibit tampering with your cell phone, especially if it’s not your property. Many times when you sign a contract, if you got your new phone for free or for a very low price, you don’t actually own your cell phone. Basically what happens is you’re “renting” it from the carrier while you’re still under your 2 years of service.

If you aren’t under the “renting” category of cell phone users, you’re free to choose whatever unlocking option you want. However, through my experience, the best method for unlocking your phone is through the carrier. If you don’t have the choice available to you, have a local third-party business do it for you. While it costs more than using a simple website, you’re much more likely to have a working phone. When you unlock your phone yourself, you’re able to permanently disable service to the phone if you do the wrong thing.

If you’ve come upon a stolen phone, there’s no way you can get it unlocked. Once a phone is reported lost or stolen, it’s impossible to get it to work with a carrier. No website or person will be able to legally unlock the phone.

If you like to go on vacations across the county, you probably like to keep communications up with friends and family back home. But, if you’ve ever considered international calling before, it can be very expensive (and your vacation is already expensive as it is). If you have a domestic cell phone, you don’t want to end up having to pay outrageously high international roaming charges when you call home. International cell phone rental is a perfect solution for solving this problem. With almost minimal cost and the many added benefits, the choice is whether you should rent or buy a new international mobile phone.

In most cases, using a mobile phone while traveling can be very expensive. Depending on where you’re going, your current wireless carrier could end up charging upwards of $3 per minute. And that’s not limited to outgoing calls either, if anyone you know ends up calling you, you have to pay for the minutes for that too. Since we can assume you want to let your loved ones know that you’re safe during your travels, you’re probably wanting to find a solution to keep your bills low. Renting an international wireless phone can solve this problem by its very low costs. In many cases, it’s only about $30 for the first week of your vacation and then only $1.75 a day thereafter.

So what are some of the benefits?

You have save over 75% on your cell phone calls while traveling abroad.

You can receive free calls in over 54 countries.

You can get all the free text messages you want.

Cell phone coverage in over 160 countries.

Your calling credit is easily refillable by using your phone or the internet.

You receive the international mobile phone, the charger, and all the accessories needed to easily carry it around with you.

In order to get one of these phones, you need to let an international wireless phone carrier know the details of your departure and return dates of your trip. They will send you the phone and initial $5 calling credit in the mail. Once you get the mobile phone, you just need to turn it on and activate it using their website. Once activated, you can add minutes to it at any time using the phone or their website. Once you are back from your trip, all you need to do is ship it back to them.

The decision of whether you should buy or rent your mobile phone is dependent on how often and how long your travel. If you’re only planning to be vacationing overseas for only several weeks, you’re much better off with a rental. If, on the other hand, you travel more than 3 or 4 weeks of the year internationally, you’ll in the long term save money by buying your own international wireless phone.

Unlocked mobile phones are great for people needing freedom to use whatever SIM card they want. Whether it’s traveling abroad or just more flexibility at home if they need to switch carriers, unlocked cell phones are great for many reasons. While buying a cell phone new is always good, with money being as tight as it is for many people, there are many places where there are unlocked cell phone deals.

The main benefit of buying a discount unlocked cell phone is that you have the option to keep the phone whenever you change mobile phone carriers. The reason why this is so beneficial is it saves you, the consumer, a lot of money because you don’t have to buy a new phone with your contract. Plus, you can easily switch from a carrier that requires a two year contract to a carrier that requires absolutely no long term obligation. This type of flexibility let’s you switch to any carrier, any time, without worrying about penalties and fees (assuming you’re not under contract). For this reason alone, is it great to choose an unlocked phone.

If you’re a worldwide traveler, having an unlocked cell phone is great way to avoid paying international phone fees. In a foreign country, with an unlocked wireless phone, you can simply purchase a prepaid SIM card and put it into your phone. This saves you tons of money (hundreds of dollars usually) because you don’t end up having to by a foreign new phone. Traveling abroad is the primary reason why unlocking mobile phones became popular originally. Smart travelers learned that they could save tons of money both at home and away in foreign countries by doing this.

The cost of your unlocked wireless phone is probably the most important thing when making a buying decision. While there are plenty of “new” cell phones that have been unlocked, the cheapest and most budget friendly way to get a cell phone deal is buying used. Used unlocked cell phones are by far the cheapest and most reliable way to buy. And if you’re someone that’s concerned that buying used will only get you phones that are 3 years old or more, you’re wrong! In fact, most of the used unlocked phones on the market right now are only a year old or newer. Because of this, there’s really no reason why you should be buying used. Buying new is only for suckers who like paying full price. Great places to look for used mobile phones are eBay and cell phone websites.

In the end, there are tons of different reasons why you should be buying an unlocked mobile phone. You can save tons of money with unlocked cell phone deals (especially with used phones) plus you have a lot more freedom with the carriers you go with. So, if you want to save tons of money, and be a smart shopper, buy a used unlocked cell phone.

If you’re looking for a great deal on a new phone (especially if you’re planning on unlocking it), there are many cell phone carriers that have great contracts to get into that will get the cell phone service you need and the flexibility you can get from an unlocked phone. First off, the “best” mobile phone contract is purely subjective based on the user. Some people rarely use their phone ever and wouldn’t require the same contract that young 20-something-year-old may use with their latest Blackberry. Some people can seriously get away with a plan costing less than $10 a month and be more than perfectly satisfied whereas other people simply wouldn’t be happy with any plans less than $60 per month. So, to make it fair for everyone, I’ll break up the usage into groups to help you find the cheapest and best cell phone contract.

The first group of people will be the people who rarely use their phone. These are people that use their cell phone very seldom and often use maybe 30 minutes per month. These people don’t text often and if they do, they might only send 5 or 10 texts per month. In this category of people, you’d be most satisfied with a no contract cell phone service with a carrier like Tracfone. These cheap pay as you go phones are great for the person who rarely texts are calls anyone. Depending on your usage, you can sometimes end up spending less than 10 bucks per month (without ever worrying about overage fees or other sneaky penalties).

The second group of people are like myself and use their cell phone a lot but tend to major texters. While I don’t text quite as much as I used to, I still send out at least 500 – 1000 texts per month. My calling is fairly sporadic but I usually end up calling and getting calls during the night and on weekends. Because of this, I usually end up using 200 minutes or maybe a bit more per month. If you’re someone like me, you’ll find the best satisfaction out of plan from a company like Sprint or Verizon with unlimited messaging. Since I don’t use a bunch of minutes, I chose a plan with 400 any time minutes and unlimited messaging (about $50 a month). If you’re the opposite as me and end up using tons of minutes through calls and rarely do anything else (texting, web-surfing, etc.), there will be a mobile phone contract that falls into the category too in the $50 range.

Finally, the last group are the major data, minute, and messaging users. These types of people seem to be always glued to their phone, either making a call, texting a friend, or surfing the web. If you’re in this group, you’ll benefit the most from a “Simply Everything” plan. These cell phone contracts are probably the most expensive (ranging over $100 per month), but can end up saving you tons of money in fees and overages (simply because there is no limits). Whether you end up placing 2000 minutes of calls in a month or if you surf all day every day on your phone, you’ll discover these cell phone contracts are the best for you.

If you’re still unsure about what mobile phone contract you should do, investigate the websites of the major carriers in your area. Figure out what type of usage you’re doing each month and find the plan that will fit your perfectly. If you need help looking, there are 3rd party websites that can help you too. Finally, if you don’t want to have to deal with more information on the web, go to your local cell phone store and talk with a sales rep there. They can also help you find the best plan for your usage.

Unlocking your mobile phone is quite easy if you know what to do and can be achieved through different methods, each at a different price point. Each method also has a degree of difficulty and risk to them. If you choose to go with a method besides contacting your mobile phone carrier, you could risk damaging your phone or rendering it inoperable. Also, when you go with other methods that use third party software or hardware, you also risk being scammed.

One of the easiest ways for unlocking a cell phone is by calling your carrier and asking them to unlock it for you. Assuming you are using a phone using GSM cell phone technology (ie it uses a SIM card), you can have it unlocked. Carriers like T-Mobile or AT&T will let you call them after a set period of time during your contract to request a phone unlock. Some carriers (T-Mobile) will let you do this for free after 90 days, and other carriers may charge you a nominal fee for the unlocking. All you have to do when having your phone unlocked in this manner is to call your carrier’s customer service and request it. If they ask you why you want to unlock your phone, tell them (no matter what the reason is), you need the phone unlocked because you’re going to be traveling overseas. This excuse is completely legitimate and you’ll never have to worry about your cell phone company denying your request.

The second easiest (but also the most expensive) way for unlocking mobile phones is through going to a local business to have them unlock your phone for you. While this method can be a little costly, you don’t have to worry about causing damage to your phone. Professional people who unlock phones every day have the equipment and software necessary to get the task done. Plus, if you’re dealing with a reputable company, they should have a risk-free policy where if you phone is damaged for their service they will replace it for you.

The final method for unlocking cell phones is buying the software or 3rd party hardware and doing it yourself. You can buy the stuff you need to unlock your phone on quite a few websites as well as on auction sites like eBay. How the software works that you can buy is it requests some of the identification codes found on the phone and then generates the unlock code based on those numbers. Assuming you buy high quality software, you can get you mobile phone unlocked fast and easy. While this method is cheaper than paying some else to unlock your mobile phone for you, the risk is much higher! If you fail to follow instructions correctly or if you buy shoddy software or hardware, you can seriously break your phone. So, unless you know somewhat what you’re doing, I’d try the first or second method listed first.

The iPhone has been at the center of attention in the cell phone world for quite some time. While many other phones have come out to compete against the iPhone (some more successful than others), the iPhone has reigned supreme. Featuring a state-of-the-art touch screen, tons and tons of user-made and professional apps, and of course a multimedia functions, the iPhone has stolen the hearts of techies around the world.

Getting an unlocked iPhone can prove to be a hard task however. The new iPhone 3GS model has yet to be hacked through the means of software and so in order to unlock a preexisting iPhone you need to use 3rd part SIM cards or hardware. Because of this set back, if you’re interested in buying an unlocked iPhone, you have to result to websites selling them new in the box.

One of the most popular sites to buy an unlocked 3GS iPhone is eBay. The prices of an unlocked iPhone are astronomically high and are almost twice as much as a one found obtained with a new contract. Yes, people are paying over $800 for the unlocked 32 GB model. The high demand and low availability of the unlocked version of the iPhone has a played a major role in the price.

If you don’t want to pay $800 for the unlocked model, you’ll have to consider other websites that sell 3rd party hardware that will unlock the phone for you. These 3rd party devices either attach to existing SIM card in the phone or replaces the SIM card altogether and are able to unlock the iPhone. As a disclaimer, some of these devices have been known to disable or damage the phone and so research should be done before using one these units.

Finally, if you don’t want to worry about damaging your iPhone or paying trumped up prices for a new unlocked iPhone, the best thing you can do is wait. Within a few months, software hackers should come out with something that will allow you to unlock your phone. While this isn’t the “best” way to unlock an iPhone, it will definitely lower the prices on eBay and other auction sites when it does happen. So, even if you aren’t going to use the software yourself, you can at least buy a new one for hundreds of dollars less.

If you’re looking for a brand new unlocked cell phone there are tons of places to look to find the best deal including a plethora of online stores (like Amazon, eBay, and Pure Mobile) or even local stores like cell phone shops and sometimes rarely pawn shops. But the best place that I would look for new unlocked mobile phone would be on the internet. The internet will have the best prices and selection available. So, unless you’re a in a huge hurry, I would find an online store that I trust and buy from them.

Buying from an auction site like eBay

Websites like eBay stand to give you the best deal possible on a new phone. Sellers on their site often get their phones for very good deals and can pass those good deals to you. Many times you can save a few dollars by choosing eBay over some of the other online retailers. There is a catch to those great deals though, while eBay works hard to prevent this, there is always a chance you can end up purchasing a stolen or defective cellular phone. While their site has set up ways to get your money back if you get a product like this, the inconvenience of having to wait a few more weeks for the problem to resolve may not be worth the hassle.

Buying from Amazon

Amazon is probably my most trusted site when it comes to finding good deals on electronics like cell phones. Finding a new GSM unlocked cell phones can be easy and safe with Amazon. Amazon actively tests and reviews its products (unlike eBay) to assure quality for their customers which I’ve noticed each and every time I order from them. One complaint about Amazon, however, is that they’re not always the cheapest compared to some of the other guys. But besides that complaint, I would never have an issue recommending Amazon.

Other Unlocked Cell Phone Sellers

In this group of sellers you’ll find many websites selling unlocked mobile phones. This websites usually have extremely large inventories and fairly competitive prices. These websites are typically very reputable and would include Pure Mobile and Cell Hut. If you like to deal with websites who exclusively sell cell phones and have customer service knowledgeable about their products, purchasing from these sites would be my recommendation. As with the complaint with Amazon, the only problem with buying from these “big” cell phone websites is their prices aren’t always the cheapest compared to eBay. However, if you’re not just worried about getting a cheap unlocked cell phone but would also like good customer service and convenient return policies, I would stick with Amazon or these other websites.
